Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department

Rescue Trucks

The Summerfield Township Volunteer Fire Department currently operates two rescue trucks. Fire runs account for only a small percentage of our total calls. The majority of the calls that we run are rescue calls. Our primary rescue truck, Rescue-9 is used on nearly every call that we run.

Rescue-9

Purchased using taxpayer money in 2002 for $115,000, this is the primary rescue vehicle for the Summerfield Township Volunteer Fire Department. As mentioned above, this truck is used on nearly every call that the STVFD runs. Thus, it is the most frequently used vehicle currently in service.

The truck is a 2002 Ford E-450 Ambulance built by Braun Ambulance. It has a diesel powerstroke engine with turbo. Although the department is licensed as a "rescue" service, which means that we normally do not transport patients, this truck has dual transport capability. If needed, it can be used transport multiple victims to a nearby hospital. This truck is equipped with many life sustaining devices, including on-board oxygen & suction.

The department regularly runs this vehicle with 4-5 firefighters to a scene.

Rescue-8

Unlike our primary rescue truck, this "Heavy Rescue" truck does not have transport capabilities. It carries transportable life sustaining equipment such as portable oxygen and suction. It is often used as a backup rescue truck when Rescue-9 is on another run or out of service. The equipment which makes this truck unique in the fleet is the on-board cascade system. This air system is capable of refilling up to 20 SCBA bottles on a fire scene. As a result, this truck is nearly always used for area stucture fires.

Rescue-8 is a 1987 Chevrolet with a 427 gas engine and an Allison automatic transmission. It was built by Michigan First Response and was purchased for $66,955 in donations and grants.

$7,000 was donated by the PVFD toward the purchase of this truck. $1,500 was donated by the Deerfield Farmers Telephone Company. An additional $30,000 was donated by the Herrick Foundation in the form of a grant.
