Open House
Each year the Summerfield Township Volunteer Fire Department opens it's doors to the general public for an open house, allowing area residents to learn more about the fire department and what it means to be a fire fighter. This event is held each year on the second Saturday of October.
Fire fighters spend the afternoon answering questions and giving tours to inquisitive residents of all ages. Often, a jaws-of-life demostration is given for attendees. This demonstration allows them to see what it takes to perform a possible life-saving extracation from a vehicle accident.
The Monroe County area is primarily served by four helicopter air rescue services, Promedica from The Toledo Hospital, Life Flight from St. Vincent's in Toledo, Survival Flight from The University of Michigan Hospital, and Midwest Medflight from St. Joseph's in Ann Arbor. Each year, a highlight of the open house is the visit from one of these local helicopter air rescue services. Attendants to the open house are treated to witnessing a landing and take-off of the helicopter. They are also given the opportunity to get up close to the helicopter and ask the flight crew, doctors, & medics questions about the service.
Food and beverages are provided for all who attend. Signs advertising the exact date and time of the open house are posted in the area a few weeks prior to the event. If you have any questions about the open house, please call the fire hall at 734-279-2525. The best time to call is during training & meeting days, the first, second, & third Thursday of each month, at 6:30 P.M.
