PVFD Helps Santa Claus Come to Town
Last Updated December 6, 2008 3:00 PM
On Thursday, December 24th, the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department, with the help of area businesses and the local "Woodchuck Club", will help Santa visit area homes.
The PVFD has been helping Santa come to town since the 1940's! If parents wish for Santa to visit their home on Christmas Eve and they live in the City of Petersburg, they simply need to leave the porch light on. If they live in Summerfield Township, the parents need to call the fire department at 279-2525 and request a visit. The department will be holding trainings and meetings at 6:30 PM on Friday, December 12 and Wednesday, December 17. It would be best to call during those times.
Summerfield Township VFD Breaks 300 calls in 2008
A busier than usual month of December helped to push The Summerfield Township Volunteer Fire Department to 301 calls in 2008. This was ten more calls than in 2007. In 2006, 281 calls were run. And in 2005, 279 calls were run.
The overwhelming majority of the calls that the department runs are medical calls. These calls can range anywhere from bee stings to heart attacks and strokes. The next highest percentage of calls are car accidents. Lastly, structure and field fires make up the smallest percentage of calls, yet can be the costliest type of call in terms of property damage.
